Alabama: Getting The Truth About EFCA

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 by Admin

The fight against the Employee Free Choice Act continues to rage — amid bogus efforts to negotiate on issues where there can be no compromise. Associated Builders and Contractors is proud to be a leader in this fight, and our chapters are doing their part (and then some).

The latest example comes from Alabama, where the Birmingham News notes state chapter president Jay Reed’s co-leadership of the Alabama Alliance of Business Against EFCA. Check out the story (and a great editorial cartoon on the issue) by clicking here.

    Hilary Smith says:

The problems in our economy, in large part, boil down to the fact that consumers don’t have enough money. Our wages have been dwindling for three decades. Union workers earn more money than non-union workers so from a consumer perspective, a union movement would help the economy since it would reestablish consumer purchasing power. Also, nobody is fooled by employer attempts to “defend” the rights of workers by rallying against the EFCA. EFCA represents the moral high ground and that is why it will win.

Actually, overall compensation has remained steady, while the specific designation of wages have fallen only a tiny bit (other benefits have made up the difference). It’s troubling that anyone would classify stealing the secret ballot as “the moral high ground” and there’s plenty of evidence to suggest that a strong campaign to educate the public will lead to EFCA’s defeat (which is good for union and non-union employees alike).
