Fake Grassroots Propaganda Doesn’t Change Truth About Employee Free Choice Act
Sunday, May 3rd, 2009 by AdminUh oh, somebody got caught cribbing pro-EFCA notes. With the Employee Free Choice Act facing longer odds these days, apparently its proponents have turned to underhanded tactics to convince the public. Check out this comment submitted to The Truth About EFCA.com by “Jim” yesterday (May 2, 2009). Now check out the long comment by “Buddy M.” submitted to the Grand Forks Herald website on May 2, 2009.
Notice anything interesting? Apparently “Buddy” and “Jim” share a brain — or stale talking points. Or maybe both got their text from “Anonymous” at the Wall Street Journal website on May 1.
Who knows? Who cares?
Simply repeating the same lines about EFCA aren’t going to win the intellectual battle because Congress and, increasingly, Americans know that EFCA means effectively eliminating secret ballots for working Americans and forcing government into the private negotiation process. Both are bad, and many jobs will be lost.
UPDATE (May 4, 7:10 AM EST): Umm, ok. Apparently someone didn’t get the point of this post. “Hillary Smith” added this comment, which uses language that appears multiple times online — including another comment on this blog by Hillary Smith. At least in Hillary’s case the words are hers — she just happens to use them over and over. But the example above, as well as some we’ve seen on letters pages in newspapers, involve multiple people using the exact same language to push a bad bill.

Hilary Smith says:Why are employers so afraid to sit down at the bargaining table and come to an agreement with their workers? There is no good reason why free men should be prevented by law from uniting as they see fit. The law should not enable employer interference because that is unfair to the working-class majority. The EFCA will help workers earn more money and spend more money. That will be good for the economy. If employers choose to move jobs overseas we should tariff their goods.
